Ms. Toledo became a part of the Visitation Faculty in 2014, coming to us from St. Monica Catholic High School where she taught multiple levels of English and served as the Co-Director of Campus Ministry. Prior to working at St. Monica, she gained extensive classroom experience while teaching English to all grade levels at Bishop Mora Salesian High School. Ms. Toledo earned both her Bachelor's degree in English and Master's degree in Secondary Education from Loyola Marymount University. She also possesses a California Single-Subject English Credential, obtained from Loyola Marymount University as well.
Ms. Toledo believes that education is a tool to help students become aware individuals and socially active and just, autonomous beings. She believes that education has the power to create individuals who can and will become citizens of their world and citizens who will understand their values and their power to impact our world.
In order for her students to develop a sense of value for others, Ms. Toledo has students work in cooperative learning groups. These groups not only serve as a tool for students to interact and exchange ideas, but they provide a ground base for students to re-create their knowledge with other beings. She strongly believes in students taking active roles in their own development as learners, which is prevalent in her classroom through the use of group work and relevant literature. Overall, Ms. Toledo believes that her role as educator is to create a classroom setting that is open and safe for students to create their knowledge, share their opinions, and challenge each other.
