RECYCLING NEWS
from Daphne, Our Green Queen
I
would like to thank Visitation School parents,
students, and teachers for helping me collect recyclable
items for our two main programs, Cartridges for Kids
and the TerraCycle Drink Pouch Brigade. Your efforts
have diverted these items from landfills into recycling
programs and raised cash for our classrooms!
I
wanted to share our current progress. In 2010, Visitation
School joined the TerraCycle Drink Pouch
Brigade, which pays schools two cents for each Capri
Sun, Honest Kids, and Kool-Aid Jammers drink pouch.
Through September 2011, Visitation School
students saved 6,506 drink pouches, earning
$141.56. I am about to send off another box, which
should put our total collection at over 7,000 pouches.
Keep them coming!
Visitation School parents also continue
to drop off ink cartridges and various electronic
items in the school office for our Cartridges for
Kids program. In 2011, Visitation School earned $274.97,
and the year hasn’t even ended—I am shipping
three full boxes just this week!
In
other green efforts, we continue to sell reusable
grocery bags bearing the Visitation School
logo at $4.00 per bag or three for $10.00. I encourage
all to stock up on our bags--not only will you help
support Visitation, but you will also help your households
go green, too! And if you shop in Santa Monica, you
will need reusable bags or need to purchase bags (paper
or reusable) at the counter.
Finally,
the PFA is also working with Visitation School
teachers and Mr. Watson on other ideas for improving
the environmental footprint of Visitation
School. As much as we all do now, we can
do so much more.
Please
let me know if you have ideas or would like to volunteer!
