Religion Department

6thGrade Religion
We’re going to expand our understanding of God’s love by taking a closer look at the part of the Bible with the people, stories, and events that started it all: The Old Testament. In this class, we’ll be studying the development and progression of Christianity and God’s story. What were the lives of people like in the Old Testament? What were their experiences, problems, successes, and milestones? How did they set a foundation for modern Christianity? How is God’s love demonstrated in the Old Testament, and what can we learn from these events and stories? Together, we’ll engage our critical thinking muscles as well as our creativity as we consider how God’s love is demonstrated from the dawn of creation to the end of the Old Testament’s timeline. Let’s find the link between God’s love today and when it all first began!

7thGrade Religion
We’re now in New Testament territory, and are going to expand our understanding of God’s love by taking a closer look at the life, teachings, and miracles of Jesus! In this class, we’ll be studying the impact of Jesus Christ on both his disciples and his opposition. So… Who was and is Jesus? How is God’s love demonstrated in the life and teachings of Jesus, and what can we learn from these events and stories? How do our faith practices (such as the sacraments) honor Jesus? Let’s understand what it means to follow Jesus and how that looks in our daily lives.

This class is about Jesus’ life, lessons, miracles, and sacrifice.

Together, we’ll engage our critical thinking muscles as well as our creativity as we consider how God’s love is demonstrated from the birth of Jesus through his resurrection.

Let’s find the link between God’s love through Jesus and our lives today!

8thGrade Religion
We’re diving into “The Church.” And no, it’s not just about the building! In this class, we’ll be studying what the Church represents in our daily lives and in our faith practice, specifically the mystery, history and marks, and witness of the Church, and how we as a people uphold and care for it as signs of our faith, love, and respect.

What does the “Church” stand for? Has it shifted over the course of history? How might its existence and influence have altered world events, and perhaps the course of history? How do our faith practices (such as the sacraments) honor and reinforce the Church? Let’s understand what it means to be part of the Church and how it impacts our lives.

Together, we’ll engage our critical thinking muscles as well as our creativity as we consider these big questions and how important the Church is in our walk with God.

Let’s find the link between community and the Church together as a community.
