The Spanish Department has objectives for the various grade levels.
Second, First, Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten Grades 1. To motivate students' interests in all areas of Spanish (vocabulary, conversation, games, contests and songs). 2. To be in touch with other cultures and traditions. 3. To speak and understand phrases, sentences and questions. 4. To have an open ear for a second language. Third Grade 1. To motivate students' interest in all curriculum areas of Spanish (vocabulary, conversation, games, contests and songs). 2. To be in touch with other cultures and traditions. 3. To speak and understand phrases, sentences and questions. 4. To have an open ear for a second language. 5. To learn how to read and write in Spanish. Fourth Grade 1. To motivate students' interest in all curriculum areas of Spanish (vocabulary, conversation, games, contests and songs). 2. To be in touch with other cultures and traditions. 3. To speak and understand phrases, sentences and questions. 4. To have an open ear for a second language. 5. To learn how to read and write in Spanish. 6. To learn everyday verbs, definite and indefinite articles, subject pronouns, singular and plural forms, numbers, tell time and vocabulary. Fifth Grade 1. To motivate students' interest in all curriculum areas of Spanish (vocabulary, conversation, games, contests and songs). 2. To be in touch with other cultures and traditions. 3. To speak and understand phrases, sentences and questions. 4. To learn how to read and write in Spanish. 5. To learn how to conjugate in present tense with regular and some irregular verbs. Learn verbs "ser" and "estar". 6. To learn about all Spanish speaking countries in the world. Sixth Grade 1. Students will understand and say directions in Spanish. 2. Students learn to construct language by moving words to phrases to paragraphs. 3. Students will learn about Spanish speaking countries and their cultures through reading, songs, food and games. 4. Students will learn vocabulary and phrases used in everyday settings. Seventh Grade 1. Students will understand and say directions in Spanish. 2. Conjugate verbs in present tense in sentences and paragraphs. 3. Students will be able to comprehend Spanish passages. 4. Students will learn about other cultures and connect to other traditions. 5. Students will learn to construct language by moving from words to phrases to paragraphs. 6. Students will learn about Spanish speaking countries and their cultures through reading, songs, food and games. 7. Students will write simple poems and dialogues in Spanish. Eighth Grade 1. Students will understand and say directions in Spanish. 2. Conjugate verbs in present tense in sentences and paragraphs. 3. Students will be able to comprehend Spanish passages. 4. Students will learn about other cultures and connect to other traditions. 5. Students will learn to construct language by moving from words to phrases to paragraphs. 6.
